Program Overview (from the program website):

Village Voice Media, in conjunction with the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, offers an intensive, eight-week, paid summer fellowship for college students, particularly those from underrepresented communities, who are interested in alternative media as a career.

The program, which takes place at Cronkite’s state-of-the-art journalism school in the heart of downtown Phoenix, is heavily digital in focus and immerses students in blogging, photography, video, audio and social media. Fellows also produce original reported material for Village Voice online publications.

Program instructors include top Cronkite faculty as well as the nation’s leading news, music and food writers from the Village Voice family of 18 websites and newspapers.

Fellows are paid $500 per week and housing is provided. The program is open to students who are within one year of graduation, graduate students or post grads. As part of the Village Voice’s diversification efforts, students from underrepresented communities, particularly Latino and African-American, are encouraged to apply.

Fellows may ultimately be considered for positions within the Village Voice family of publications.

Fellows for the 2012 program have been chosen, but applications will be accepted in early 2012 for next year’s program.
