Program Overview (from the program website):
The ProgramThe goal of the Wilcox Fellows program at Concord Academy is to identify and nourish teaching talent among groups underrepresented on independent school faculties. Working closely with a mentor teacher who has been granted substantial release time to provide ongoing guidance and support, Wilcox Fellows typically teach two classes each semester, which is half a normal full-time load. They also informally advise students and serve on faculty committees. Wilcox Fellows participate in regular meetings of teachers new to the school to discuss issues of teaching and learning. How to ApplySuccessful Wilcox Fellowship candidates will be able to work comfortably within CA's environment; they will also have a strong background in their disciplines, excellent writing and analytical skills, and a demonstrable interest in working with students of high school age. Formal teacher training is not required. The duration of the fellowship is one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second. Housing on campus may be available for Wilcox Fellows, as are coaching opportunities, but they are not mandatory. Coaching carries additional compensation. The Wilcox Fellow stipend for the 2010–11 school year is $22,000 for on-campus residents or $27,000 for those who live off campus. All 2011-12 Wilcox Fellows have been selected. We welcome expressions of interest for a fellowship in 2012-13. Interested candidates should email or send a resume with a cover letter, transcript, a statement about the ways the candidate will contribute to the diversity of the Concord Academy faculty, and the names and telephone numbers of three references to: Lucille Stott Concord Academy actively seeks applicants who reflect and support our mission-driven commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive school community. |
