We are seeking a minimum two year commitment from an exceptional early-mid career Production Engineer to lead the overall vehicle production process for a new vehicle that will form the basis of our main product offering into the African market – a truly unique opportunity to create impact on a global scale. The role will require a close working relationship with the venture’s Design Engineer, Cost Engineer, Supply Chain Associate as well as the broader Mobius team and our contracted vehicle assembly partner. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Production Engineering
1. Plan, direct and coordinate manufacturing and assembly processes; including working alongside production staff and technicians to develop, install and maintain equipment used in the manufacturing process.
2. Develop, evaluate and continuously improve manufacturing methods, utilising knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality standards.
3. Estimate costs, production times and staffing requirements in conjunction with the assembly partner and broader Tier 1 suppliers.
4. Analyse and plan workforce utilisation, space requirements and workflow and design layout of equipment for maximum efficiency.
5. Investigate and resolve operational problems such as material use variances and bottlenecks. Develop action plans or contingencies for line stoppage and repair plans.
6. Confer with suppliers to determine product specifications, support purchase of equipment, materials, or parts and evaluate products according to quality standards.
7. Develop quality targets and metrics and ensure on-going adherence to these standards. Work with quality personnel to determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in product designs, tolerances, machine tooling and process methods.
8. Identify and incorporate cost-effective, sustainable technologies to reduce negative environmental impacts and improve safety of manufacturing operations.
9. Give training and technical support on new machines and processes, applying industry health and safety practices.
10. Draft manufacturing documentation including PFMEA, control plans, process documentation and formal quality standards.
11. Maintain feasibility of engineering approach for low volume production tooling and limited in-country resources - for example, steel-stamping presses will not be available at initial production. Utilise in-country equipment and materials and adapt approach to the low-tech resources available.
12. Perform Value Add / Value Engineering. Generate cost reduction ideas through identification of process/product efficiencies that will reduce overall costs. Work with all stakeholders to achieve cost reduction targets.
13. Support Supply Chain Associate in specific sourcing work involving critical costs and engineering considerations; including analysis and trade-offs of functionality versus cost.
14. Provide guidance to the Automotive Designer, Design Engineer and Cost Engineer for proposed new or modified designs to achieve required function at minimum cost.
Project Management
15. Lead and facilitate production review sessions. Report risks and opportunities of production status on a weekly basis.
16. Take ownership of projects; plan milestones, timelines, budgets, resources and identify potential risks to deliver production aspects within agreed completion dates.
17. Be proactive regarding task completion and periodically advise wider team on project status, timing, resources, issues, and ability to deliver on-time with excellence.
18. Ensure adherence and compliance to general automotive industry production standards and best practices; maintain structured and versioned data outputs daily and backup data weekly.
19. Work as an active member of the team, ensure effective communication between colleagues and positively contribute regularly to meetings and briefings.
