Position Description

Reading Partners seeks a dynamic Project Manager to provide additional programmatic and field support to ensure on-going, high-quality, consistent programming in both the Reading Center Programs during the day as well as our new Reading Partners Plus after school program. The Project Manager focus will be to assist the Regional Executive Director to coordinate professional development, yearly evaluations, implement curriculum improvements, and facilitate program trainings. This position is based in the Oakland and San Francisco region which has partnered with 21 schools to create 19 Reading Centers. The expected start date is mid-February, 2012.

This is a unique, ground floor, opportunity created to meet needs of our growing organization. In summer 2012, a high-performing Project Manager may have opportunity to transition to a Program Manager role who will be responsible for managing a “suite” of 4-5 Reading Centers including supervising a team of Site Coordinators, who are directly responsible for operating in-school literacy intervention programs at Title I elementary schools in a specific geographic region.

Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidate will have a strong background in elementary education and literacy instruction for emergent and fluent readers. S/he will possess managerial skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and constituents of diverse backgrounds. S/he must be able to provide ongoing coaching to staff members who may have limited teaching experience but who are committed to developing a high-quality program. S/he will have experience working within school and district administrations and must be able to independently identify and troubleshoot operational challenges, develop action plans to achieve student progress, and remain accountable for program results.

Responsibilities

The Project Manager will be expected to:

Edit and develop curriculum for the RPP program. Curriculum is based on best practices, addresses multiple subjects, connected to state education content standards, and developed to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners.
Provide on-site support and educational guidance for the RPP Program staff.
Assist in the revision and implementation of the RPP Program Evaluation Plan, which will measure the program impact through achieving program goals.
Provide effective coaching of literacy instruction and classroom management to RPP Group Leaders.
Coach and develop RPP Group Leaders in program lesson plan review and implementation.
Execute regular Tutor Enrichment Trainings for RP volunteers.
Provide professional development and training support to RP employees throughout the region
Coordinate ongoing leadership development trainings, AmeriCorps trainings, and other internal talent development programs for RP.
Other duties as assigned.

Project Manager will report to the local Regional Director.

Candidates must be committed to providing excellent educational opportunities for all students and must be willing to work enthusiastically toward achieving this goal.

Required

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Significant experience (3+ years) in elementary school education and/or reading instruction for children
Significant experience managing both professional staff and volunteers
Proven ability to provide strategic coaching and support to develop skills within others
Proven success in preemptively and proactively identifying and addressing problems
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Flexibility and adaptability in work schedule, including some night and weekend time
Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups and build meaningful strategic relationships
Excellent computer skills, including MS Office applications & background in database management
Experience in producing, synthesizing and analyzing student assessment data
Familiarity with and experience working with literacy assessments & teaching strategies
Experience in volunteer management, firm grasp of RP volunteer experience objectives
Experience in working with principals, teachers and district staff to convey program success factors and challenges, as well as managing organizational relations
Access to reliable transportation (public transportation or personal transport) to travel within a defined geographic region on a weekly basis
Ability to travel to the Reading Partners National office in Oakland on a monthly basis

Preferred

Master’s degree in education or related field
Elementary curriculum development
Experience with reading intervention or tutoring programs
California Teaching credential
Background in independent event planning

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position with benefits and a generous vacation/PTO schedule including flextime options, comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability program.
